While The Yoga Studio in Astoria, Queens, is new to the community our location is not. We chose a place that had already been part of the yoga community here because we know how important it is to the people here. We wanted to continue serving the old and new yogis in our neighborhood because we are a part of it too.

Being part of a studio in your community brings your involvement with the practice to another level. Our community of instructors and students brings support to a yoga that can’t be gained from at home practice. Group yoga sessions have proven to add a social support network that benefits your mental health and commitment.

Practicing yoga in a group has many benefits both on and off the mat. Whether you’re a beginner or expert yoga opens up an instant community of people who are there to both help and learn with you. Our own well being motivates us to connect to an activity like yoga but sometimes the couch calls at the end of a long day. Having a class of familiar faces to return to gives your yoga practice another motivation that we all sometimes need. You’re making yourself responsible to a group that is all in it together battling a busy life.

Committing to a regular yoga class also gives us dedicated time in our week to practice. When we aim to do yoga throughout our week at home other life events can often get in the way or distract us. Our Instructors

One of the biggest benefits to doing yoga at a studio is the expert guidance of an instructor. At the beginning of your yoga journey it can often be frustrating and feel like you aren’t doing a pose right. Having an instructor there to direct you and the class through poses while bringing your attention back to breathing can help you become much more comfortable in the practice. Instructors are also there to offer encouragement. Yoga can have difficult poses and long periods of time you need to hold them. With someone there to help you have the physical and mental barriers can be keep you from getting discouraged.
