What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress-reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. Reiki translates to “Universal Life Energy”- otherwise known as the sacred energy (ki-Qi-chi) that flows through all living things. Reiki practitioners are trained to channel this energy for the highest good of all. Reiki treatment, which is usually facilitated by light touch (but does not require it), typically results in a deep state of relaxation and can provide relief from pain and anxiety. Reiki supports well-being and strengthens our natural ability to heal by encouraging balance. Over 60 hospitals nationwide – including major NYC hospitals such as Mount Sinai Beth-Israel, MSKCC, and New York-Presbyterian – have adopted Reiki as part of patient services and over 800 hospitals offer Reiki education.
Commonly reported benefits of Reiki include:
- reduced anxiety
- reduced pain
- enhanced well-being
- improved sleep
- improved focus & memory
- improved digestion
